The park has an area of 137 kilometres and is one of the best small national park in the northern Tanzania and it’s where you can do both driving and walking safaris. It’s located on the slopes of mount Meru which faces Arusha Town which is a tourist town. It has also got great views of the highest point of Africa called Mount Kilimanjaro.
This park gets its name from the waarusha people who live in this area and is characterised by four main features, these include; Momela lake, Ngurdoto crater, the highland forest and the rugged mount Meru. The Momela Lake was discovered in 1876 by a Hungarian who also observed a number of Rhino and hippos, however, these have disappeared from the park and this place is unique and tranquil place to relax while you are in Tanzania. This park has got over 350 bird species, these include; both migrant and resident and these are the few things that can be seen.
This is the closest national park to Arusha town and it’s a multi faced Jewel and often overlooked by the safari goers, which offers the opportunity to explore the diversity of habitants within a few hours.
The park has got a size of 137 sq km and it takes 40 minutes’ drive from Arusha, and it’s approximately 60 km from Kilimanjaro International Airport. The attractions that can be visited on a half at outing at the beginning or at the end of any northern safari include; the lakes, forests and the Ngurudoto crater. The main activities carried out from this park include; picnic sites, forest walks, hike to Mt Meru .
This national park can be visited from June to February, even though it rains in November. The best views of Kilimanjaro are in December to January. The accommodation facilities in this park include; lodges, rest houses, campsites mountain huts that are inside the park. This national park has also got good volcanic scenery, nice views of the mountain, variety of wildlife and the beautiful rain forest. The main features here include; Ngurdoto crater and the Momella lakes. The momella lakes also attracts variety of birds, flamingos. Etc. this famous national park is located in the northern side of Tanzania and its 40 minutes’ drive from Arusha town. The animals here include; zebras, giraffes, reedbuck, waterbuck, hippos, Buffalos, hyenas, Mongooses, Dik dik, the warthogs, baboos, vervet monkeys, and the colobus monkeys.
